Tequila In Tulum!

Blogging is hard. Credit to bloggers 'cause it ain't easy. That being said...let's talk Tulum!

I'm currently sitting in Denver and its ONE SINGLE DEGREE outside! So why not reminisce on one of the most tropical places I've ever been?

Since 2020 and COVID, I haven't been able to travel much. Obviously if you know me, traveling is clearly my favorite hobby (aside from shopping and now skiing). Now that my friends and I are vaccinated, we decided to plan a trip to Tulum, Mexico in April 2021. When I say Tulum has been on my travel list for a long time, I'm talking like 6th grade Pinterest dream board called "Take me to Tulum".

Tulum is about an hour and a half from south Cancun, in the middle of the jungle. It's not as touristy as Cancun or Cabo but its definitely gaining a lot of attention on social media because of influencers but it's well deserved. From the restaurants, boutique hotels, beach clubs, scenery...I could go on! And in fact, I will.

My friends and I found an amazing Airbnb in the town of Tulum about a 10 minute taxi to the beach and main strip of Tulum, widely known as Tulum Beach. Not to be dramatic but it's my dream vacation home. It was extremely affordable and felt completely safe during our entire trip. Not to mention, it was spotless!

We had a few reservations throughout the week and ideas of what we wanted to but our goal was really just to have a good time, explore, and drink a lot of tequila. Our first night, we went to dinner at Parole in Tulum Beach then walked to the outdoor beach club Tantra for drinks. Parole had an awesome vibe and this violinist named Diego that played EDM while you ate and stood on your table! We told them it was one of our friends birthdays, so they brought us tequila shots and dessert.

The next day, after a long nights sleep, we made our way back to Tulum Beach for the day. Since there is only one single street in Tulum Beach, there's A LOT of traffic. We ended up getting out of our taxi and walking to the beach club, Taboo. We stopped at a small bar called El Tabano for some cheap(ish) tequila shots and drinks then kept walking down the strip. We also knew that Taboo was going to be very expensive, so we stopped at a Go Mart, got drinks and made a makeshift bar in the parking lot so we could save a little money at Taboo.

Taboo is probably the most popular beach club in all of Tulum! Even then Denver Bronco superstar Von Miller was there so that's saying something! I even ran into a friend from high school. We spent the rest of the day there and just enjoying the beach, drinks and music!

We spent the next at Ziggy's beach club where we bought our own table. It was actually super easy to reserve! We spend about 6 hours there, chasing the hair of the dog and laying on the beach.

That night was our first dinner reservation at BAK by Harry's - Prime Steakhouse and Raw Bar. Let me tell you - AMAZING!

BAK was fantastic and then our of nowhere - we're in the middle of a Mayan fire show called Cha'an Ka'ak meaning "fire celebration". They say that guests leave with the protection of Kauil, the God of Fire. Then before we know it, we're standing on the tables with sparkles and dancing to Megan Thee Stallion. It was a definite experience that I would totally recommend. Not to mention, the food and drinks were incredible.

Basically everything in Tulum is outdoors, even the restaurants. It's like your in tree-houses, nests and huts the entire time. I described it to my mom saying everything looks like it was built by birds.

On our third full day in Tulum, we got up early to make our way to the famous Cenotes. These are natural pools and sink holes that have filled with fresh water. Hundreds of these Cenotes surround Tulum and are able to be explored. They make sure shower before, washing off all sunscreen and make-up in order to preserve the Cenotes.

For $25 USD, we toured four Cenotes at Casa Tortuga. I'm not kidding, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. We thought we were just going to see the Cenotes but then they hand us a life vest and goggles before we know it we're on a private tour, swimming through million year old caves and jumping off 20 foot rocks! It was the best $25 any of us have ever spent. Not to mention, our tour guide Roger was the best!

I highly recommend getting there early because it gets extremely busy in the afternoon. They also had a restaurant where we has a cheap lunch before our last dinner reservation of the trip.

For dinner, our reservation was at AZULIK, an eco-hotel, restaurant and museum in Tulum Beach. Let me tell you, the museum was the most calm and beautiful place. You have to take your shoes off and have to whisper. There's incense burning and chimes playing and it made me want to take a yoga class. It was a bohemian heaven.

We headed upstairs to the restaurant for one of the best dinners I've ever had. The service was phenomenal - our waiter even let us go into a private nest and ran all over the place taken group pictures for us.

Tulum is not the cheapest but I would go back to Azulik without hesitation. I dream of staying there one day!

On our last day we went to another beach club, similar to Taboo, called Bagatelle. Like Taboo, we spent the whole day just relaxing, eating and drinking. Bagatelle has this amazing pool that we were able to sun bathe in and enjoy our last day. For our last dinner, we ate in Tulum Town. while another Mayan fire show and some street performers that topped off the night. We then headed back to the Airbnb to pack.

Tulum absolutely lived up to the hype. The vibes are unmatched, the people are so friendly and its a bohemian paradise that smells like a mix of incense and salt water. I will be back!
