A Day in Cinque Terre

Last Saturday I had the chance to travel a few hours west of Florence to the Cinque Terre and let me tell you, its a must.

I swear my mom has had the city of Manarola as her screensaver for forever. The colorful houses built into the hillside, stacked on top of each other and over looking the Ligurian Sea is honestly a SIGHT! The cliffs are just begging to be jumped off of. The hiking path is lined with cactus and the brightest colored flowers. The water is so clear you can see the rocks 20 feet below the surface. As I walked down the steep, steep hill into the tiny town, I looked up and saw banners hanging from building to building, as well a full loads of laundry. It’s the definition of a quite Italian village by the sea.

All 5 (cinque) cities are attached by trains so its super easy to navigate. I only went to three. First was Manarola then Riomaggiore and finally Monterosso.

Riomaggiore is famously known as the town that invented pesto. There’s this amazing pizza place called Vie Ma that makes the most amazing pesto pizza! You can jump off rocks into the sea, rent boats and scuba dive!

Last stop was Monterosso which was one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to. The only bad thing is that the beach is all rocks, so sandals are a must! My friends and I got these “drunk buckets” which are basically fresh made smoothies with alcohol and a corona to top it off! They were fantastic and so refreshing.

The ride back to Florence is quick and easy. It’s the perfect, quick day trip for a beach getaway!

Love Always,
Marge
