A Weekend Wandering the Amalfi Coast

So basically the Amalfi Coast is heaven on Earth.

So far for work everywhere I go I end up saying “this is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been”. One country or city keeps topping the other. But this time, I don’t know if anything will top the Amalfi Coast cities of Capri and Positano.

Capri is an island that rests directly off the coast of the tiny (and also beautiful) town of Salerno. A short 20 minute ferry will take you to this remote and stunning island. The island is made up of cliffs and mountains that you are able to explore as well as a few beaches. There’s a funicular, which is basically a really steep train up the mountain, that can take you to the top of the island. And if you aren’t afraid of heights you can take a chairlift to Anacapri which is the highest point on the island. I highly suggest to. It’s a relaxing, 15 minute ride and once you’re at the top...the view is STUNNING.

After my friends and I explored Anacapri, we loaded a private boat and toured the coast of the island.

Listen, I’ve been to the Caribbean and seen how clear the water is there but the water in Capri is different. It is the deepest blue water I’ve ever seen but as soon as you jump in its just as clear as Aruba, if not clearer.

Our boat stopped while next to the famous Faraglioni rocks. I guarantee you’ve seen these in every Dolce and Gabbana perfume or cologne commercial. They’re even more beautiful in person than on TV.

The next day we went to took about an hour ferry to Positano and woah...no wonder Kylie Jenner just spent her birthday there. The houses stacked on top of each other, the cliffs just begging to be jumped off of and the view of the Mediterranean Sea it just unbeatable.

I spent most of the day exploring the town, relaxing on the beach and drinking daiquiris. I had myself a day!

I plan on coming back and spending much more time there in the near future because one can not have too much of Positano. It’s truly breathtaking.

We ended our Amalfi Coast trip with a hike to the top of Mt. Vesuvius and exploring the ruins of Pompeii. The hike wasn’t too bad but my calves weren’t happy the next day.

Standing at the top of Mt. Vesuvius and looking over the city of Naples, I kinda got emotional. My family immigrated to the US from Italy, leaving from Naples. Knowing that was the last city in Italy they stepped foot in, really struck me. I grabbed a rock from the active volcano and headed down the mountain.

For anyone that loves history, Pompeii is a must. The city is outstanding and the story behind is even more interesting. They were ahead of their time from the modern amphitheater to the brothels and the fast food restaurants, I could have spent hours there. Seeing casts of human bodies from the ash was fascinating.

I’ve said It a million times but it still hasn’t sunk in...I can’t believe I get to travel like this. It’s surreal.

I left Amalfi already planning my trip back!

Love Always,
Marge
